Each family staying at our house has a hotel-like room equipped with Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a sitting area and private bath. Most rooms have two double beds, and linens are provided. All of our rooms have beautiful hard surface floors which help to keep allergens and germs at bay, while aiding in accessibility.
Our kitchen, the heart of the house, is open 24 hours a day. It has four separate cooking areas, and is always stocked with snacks, beverages and cooking staples. Volunteer groups help us provide families with three meals a day. Guests are also welcome to store food and prepare their own meals. Our kitchen opens onto a patio with an outdoor grilling and dining area, with access to the vegetable and herb gardens.
There are several common areas of the House where guests can mingle, video-chat with distant friends and family, do homework or online research, or relax and watch a movie, read a book or play a game. There are often group activities or entertainment hosted by volunteer groups, or visits from our Pet Therapy partners.
The Rec Room includes a cozy sitting area with a TV and fireplace, Foosball table, table-top video game, large windows overlooking the gardens and koi pond, and tables and chairs for playing a board game or working on an art project. The Rec Room is stocked with donated art supplies.
Located just off the front lobby and connected to the Rec Room, young children can spend hours here playing with toys and creating puppet shows in this creative space.
Families can stay in touch with relatives and friends through email, keep up with homework, and research their children’s medical conditions in our resource center. Six computers with internet access are available 24/7. Wireless internet access is available throughout most of the House.
Connected to the Family Resource Center is our Family Lounge, which includes comfortable seating areas, a large TV, video game consoles, and fireplace. An aquarium, fireplace, toy train table, magazines, games, and puzzles foster relaxation in the large lobby area.
The Cleveland Ronald McDonald House is surrounded by more than two acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, designated as an official Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. The outdoor space boasts a playground, basketball hoop, contemplative walkways, an accessible tree house and a Koi pond. There are lawn areas for play, and secluded sitting areas where parents and patients find peace away from the hospital. Patios with firepit, chairs, and tables with umbrellas provide spots to gather with other families.
Laundry facilities and supplies are provided at no additional cost. The laundry room also includes irons and ironing boards, along with luggage carts. Guests are asked to wash their linens as needed during their stay.
Private parking is available to all families (limit of one car per family). Please register your car’s make/model when you check in. Free shuttle buses are available to both UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Children’s and transportation can be arranged to MetroHealth Medical Center, so families don’t have to pay for parking at the hospitals.
