Akron House FAQ

Akron House Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Our address is 141 W. State Street. We are located across the street from Akron Children’s Hospital at the corner of State Street and Locust Street. Campus Map

How do I request a room?

Call our House at 330-253-5400 x4 during office hours so that we may assist you. Office hours are M-F 8 am – 10 pm and weekends and holidays 9 am – 9 pm. The most up to date information can be found on our Request a Room page.

How much does it cost?

Families are not charged a fee to stay at the House. While it costs more than $150 per night to provide our services to each family, we rely on donations to cover these costs. Many guests choose to support ongoing operations by making a donation. A suggested donation is $20 per night, but any amount helps us to continue operations for future guests. No family has ever been, or will ever be, turned away due to inability to contribute.

How long does it take to get a room if you are on the Waiting List?

The amount of time on the Waiting List varies greatly. We are never sure when to expect our current guests to be discharged which makes your wait time hard to predict. If you are on the Waiting List feel free to call our House daily at 330-253-5400 x4 to check status. Please contact Family Services at 330-253-5400 x4 for current scheduling procedures due to COVID.

When can I check in?

We can check you in on your day of arrival between the hours of 9 am – 8 pm. If you check in early and your room is not ready, we can store your items securely and you are welcome to use our common areas. If your travel plans require that you check-in outside of those hours please let us know so we can make arrangements to accommodate your schedule. Due to COVID precautions all check-ins will be scheduled for a specific day/time.

How long can I stay?

If you arrive for a reservation you are welcome to stay with us as long as your child is admitted or receiving long-term treatment at Akron Children’s Hospital. If you come off of our wait list, we will update you daily on the status of your room.

Where do I park?

To check-in, please park on State Street in the area marked ‘Ronald McDonald House Guest Registration.”  Once you are registered you may park for no charge in the Buchtel Parking Deck (P3).  Drive to Level 1 and park in any spot marked “Patient Parking Only.”  You may park at any of the meters on the street; however, the city does police those meters. Parking meters are enforced M-F from 8 am – 6 pm. Campus Map

Who can stay in the room?

The parent or guardian can determine who will stay, but all individuals 18 and older must have passed the background check.
